Shaldon is a village full of olde-world charm, with many narrow streets and quaint cottages, some dating back to the 1600's.  It has two main beaches, one of which is accessed by a tunnel under the "Ness". This is ideal for families with small children. There is also a small Zoo (with exotic birds, small mammals and reptiles), botanical gardens and a 18 hole approach golf course.

Shaldon lies on the mouth of the river Teign opposite the town of Teignmouth which has amenities which include arcades, pier, beach, theatre and bowling green. It is connected by a passenger ferry which runs regularly during the day to and from Shaldon.

Shaldon Beach in Devon For hiking and beautiful views there is Dartmoor close by with the famous Becky Falls, pony trekking, guided walks and picturesque villages. Torquay is about 20 minutes away by car from Shaldon and there is a bus running regularly.

If you fancy a greater variety of shops Exeter is only a 30 minute drive and Plymouth about 45 minutes. The train to Exeter runs along the coast and is a very picturesque journey. Both Newton Abbot and Exeter Racecourse are about 15 minutes away by car.

Sporting facilities include an 18 hole approach golf course, sea and river fishing and various water sports including sailing, water skiing and surfing.

From April to September the village holds a "1785-Day" every Wednesday where local craftspeople dress up in period costumes and sell their wares on the village green, with live entertainment in the early evening.

In the summer the village holds a water carnival and a 10 day long regatta.
